     Moritz G. Gapsch was born on 13 Oct 1875 in Königreich Sachsen.7,8,9
     He arrived in New York with his parents, Edward W. Gapsch and Sophie Herfurt, on 23 Mar 1881, on the steamship Weser, having departed from the port of Bremen. They were shown on the passenger list as from Saxony, with a stated destination of St. Louis, and having traveled in steerage class.16,17,18
     Moritz married Johanna Pruetzel, daughter of Charles Pruetzel and Marie Hertel, on 21 Nov 1897 in St. Lucas Evangelical Church, Sappington, St. Louis Co., Missouri, with S. Kruse, pastor, officiating.10,11
     Moritz and Johanna appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, enumerated 19 Jun 1900, reporting that the family rented its farm. Their children Charles, Maria and Henry were listed as living with them.19
     Moritz was naturalized on 15 Jan 1906 in Circuit Court, Clayton, St. Louis Co., Missouri.20
     Moritz and Johanna appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, on Reaves Barracks Rd., enumerated 2 May 1910, reporting that the family rented its farm. Their children Charles, Maria, Henry, Gustave, Moritz and Robert were listed as living with them.3
     Moritz and Johanna appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Affton, St. Louis Co., Missouri, on Tesson Ferry Rd., enumerated 2 Jan 1920. Their children Charles, Henry, Maria, Gustave, Moritz and Robert were listed as living with them, as well as his father, Edward W. Gapsch.21
     Moritz and Johanna appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, on Tesson Ferry Rd., enumerated 11 Apr 1930, reporting that the family owned its home, and had no radio. Their children Moritz and Robert were listed as living with them, as well as his father, Edward W. Gapsch.22
     Moritz and Johanna appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Lemay Twp., Missouri, on Tesson Rd., enumerated 16 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $12,000, and had lived in the same house in 1935.23
     He was a farmer on his own truck farm, by 1920 on a farm he owned. In 1940 he reported that he had worked 60 hours the last week of March, and had 52 weeks the prior year.24,25,26,27,28
     His wife died on 23 Dec 1946.13,14,29
     Moritz died on 14 Feb 1952 in Concord Village, St. Louis Co., Missouri, at age 76, at his home.12,13,14 He was buried on 16 Feb 1952 in St. Lucas Cemetery, Sappington, Missouri, next to his wife.5,15

I must assume the entry in the passenger list was in error.
