     He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of St. Louis, Missouri, in the household of his parents, William B. Myers and Olive Irene Carr.4

     James was in the U.S. Navy in World War II, starting his service 7 May 1941. He was serving on the distroyer USS Shaw when it was in Pearl Harbor for repairs, where it was seriously damaged by the Japanese attach 7 Dec 1941. The forward magazine exploded spectacularly, which was captured in a widely recognized photograph by a navy photographer. Shortly before his discharge he was a part of the naval support for the "Able" and "Baker" atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in Jun and Jul 1946.13,14,15
     James married Alvina M. Gapsch, daughter of Edward Gapsch and Caroline M. Barkhau, on 7 May 1949 in Randolph Co., Arkansas, with John R. Shiuley, Jr., justice of the peace, officiating.8,9
     James and Alvina appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Rock Twp., Jefferson Co., Missouri, in the household of Edward Gapsch and Caroline M. Barkhau, her parents. Their daughter Nancy was listed with them.16
     He was a laborer doing asphalt work in 1950, reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 40 hours the prior week.17
     James and Alvina lived on her father's farm in Fenton, Missouri, and she continued to live there after his death until shortly before she died.18
     James died on 19 Dec 1999 in Fenton, St. Louis Co., Missouri, at age 77.6,10,11 He was buried on 22 Dec 1999 in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.12
