     John Haag was born on 12 Feb 1794 in Bowers, Berks Co., Pennsylvania.5,6,7
     John married Mary Elizabeth Knauss in Berks Co., Pennsylvania.8,9,10
     John appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Upper Bern Twp., Berks Co., Pennsylvania, with a household consisting of one male age 10 to 15 (son Bennefille), one age 15 to 20 (John), and one age 30 to 40 (himself), one female under age 5 (daughter Esther), one age 5 to 10 (Rebecca), one age 10 to 15 (Elizabeth), one age 20 to 30 (unknown), and one age 30 to 40 (wife Mary Elizabeth Knauss.)15
     John and Mary moved to Turbut Twp, Northumberland Co., in 1836, where he purchased a farm of 160 acres from the Kelchner estate.16,17
     John appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, with a household consisting of three males age 20 to 30 (son Bennefille and two unknown), and one age 40 to 50 (himself), one female age 5 to 10 (daughter Sarah), one age 10 to 15 (Esther), two age 15 to 20 (Rebecca and Elizabeth), and one age 40 to 50 (wife Mary.)18
     John sold a parcel of one acre and nine perches to Jacob K. Riegel on 2 Apr 1849. He took a mortgage on the land to secure a loan of $430, presumably part of the purchase payment.19
     John and Mary appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 12 Aug 1850, reporting $14,020 in real estate. Their daughter Sarah was listed as living with them, as was William Kline, a 26-year-old laborer.1
     John left a will dated 26 May 1858, in which he named his sons John and Bennefille as executors. He left to his wife, if she elected, the home and 17 acres where they lived, all the livestock, the furniture she chose, interest on $1,000 and all taxes to be paid by his estate. Should she decline, he left to her the interest on $3,000 and the furniture she chose. Any furniture and livestock she declined, and the property if she declined it, were to be sold. He said he held notes for $1,000 against each of his children, which were to be forgiven. His remaining estate was to be distributed equally to his six children. The property set aside for his wife was to be sold after her death and the proceeds divided between his children.3
     John and Mary appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 27 Jul 1860, Sarah Elizabeth Riegel and James Botorf were listed as living with them.20
     He was a farmer.21,1,20
     John died on 17 Jan 1861 at age 66.11,12,13 He was buried in Paradise Reformed Lutheran Church, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.14,4
     His will was proved on 25 Feb 1861 in Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.3
