Narrative:

Horace Cobb was born on 13 Mar 1797 in Pawlet, Vermont.7,8,9
He was probably one of the two males under age 10 listed in the household of his father, John Cobb, in the 1800 Federal Census of Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont.22 He was probably the male age 10 to 16 listed in the household of his father in the 1810 Federal Census of Orwell, Rutland Co., Vermont.23
Horace was named an executor in the will of his father dated 10 Sep 1815, along with Col. William Fuller. He was also an heir, to receive an equal share with his sisters of the furniture left to his mother after her death.24
Horace married first Thankful Bascom, daughter of Artemidorus Bascom and Chloe Hulburd, on 17 Oct 1820.10,11,12
He appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Orwell, Rutland Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of two males age 16 to 26 (Horace and another), one female one age 16 to 26 (wife Thankful), and one over age 45 (perhaps his mother.)25
His wife died on 19 Feb 1828 in Orwell, Vermont.26,27,10
Horace married second Abigail W. Nichols, daughter of James Nichols and Rachel French, on 19 Nov 1829 in Williston, Vermont.13,14,15,16
Horace appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Orwell, Rutland Co., Vermont, with a household consisting of two males age 5 to 10 (probably sons James and William, though William was only about 3), and one age 30 to 40 (himself), and one female under age 5 (daughter Jane), and one age 30 to 40 (wife Abigail.)28
Horace and Abigail moved to Brighton, New York, where his older brother Gideon was living, between 1830 and 1840.29 (See map.) Horace appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Brighton, Monroe Co., New York, with a household consisting of two males aged 15 to 20 (probably sons James and William, though William seems to have been closer to 13), and one age 40 to 50 (himself), two females age 5 to 10 (daughters Jane and Mary), and one age 30 to 40 (wife Abigail.)30
He was apparently was engaged in some sort of manufacturing in Orwell, but later was a farmer.31,32
Horace died on 16 May 1848 in Brighton, New York, at age 51.17,18,19 He was buried on 18 May 1848 in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, New York, apparently initially in his brother Gideon's lot, then moved to the adjacent lot when his heirs purchased it 26 Feb 1850, where he is next to his second wife.20,21
