Narrative:

     William B. Street was born on 12 Jul 1819 in Shawneetown, Illinois.6,7,8
     He moved to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, with his parents in 1828.4 He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1834, where his father served as Indian Agent to the Sac and Fox tribes, principally at what was later known as Agency City.4
     He was appointed postmaster to the Sac and Fox Agency in Wapello Co., Iowa, on 23 Dec 1843. He was replaced 21 Nov 1844.15
     William moved to Oskaloosa in 1844, one of the earliest settlers there.4 He was built the first frame store within the city limits, and engaged in the mercantile business. He bought his goods in St. Louis and hauled them from Keokuk, a trip of ten days. He continued in this business until 1857.4,16,17,18
     William appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Wapello Co., Iowa, enumerated 24 Sep 1850, listed in the household of his younger brother Alexander, his wife, and children.19
     William married Parolina M. Cobb, daughter of Capt. Willard Cobb and Amy Allen, on 25 Jul 1854 in Mahaska Co., Iowa.9,10,11
     William and Parolina appeared on the 1856 State Census of Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., Iowa. His 18-year-old brother David was listed as living with them, as were Lawrence Gregg, age 17, and Martha Greagg, age 10, whose relationship to them is unknown.20
     William and Parolina appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., Iowa, enumerated 4 Jul 1860, reporting he owned real estate valued at $39,500 and personal estate of $500 and she owned $2,400 in real estate. Their daughter Ida was listed as living with them, as was her younger sister, Sarah.21
     By 1866 William and his cousin Webster T. Dart were in partnership with W. L. Mitchell in a lumber and commission business under the name of Street Mitchell & Dart, operating in Des Moines.22,23
     William and Parolina appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., Iowa, enumerated 14 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $19,100 and personal estate of $4,000. Their daughter Ida was listed as living with them, as was Sarah A. Myers, age 15, a servant, and Joseph W. Hopkins, age 45, a carpenter.24
     William served in town and city offices.4
     He was a produce dealer by 1870, and had become a fire insurance agent by 1880.25,26,27
     William and Parolina appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., Iowa, at 320 Market St., enumerated 7 Jun 1880. Their daughter Ida was listed as living with them, as was W. A. Johnson, age 30, a hardware dealer.28
     Parolina moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where her daughter was teaching school, several years before her death. Whether William also moved there is unknown.29
     His wife died on 31 Jan 1890 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.30,31
     William moved to Florida, but it is unclear when except that he was well established there by the time of his death.32
     William died on 17 Mar 1899 in Ormond Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, at age 79.12,13 He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Ormond Beach, Volusia Co., Florida, but also has his name on the stone for the graves of his wife and daughter in Des Moines, Iowa.14
