     John Henry Bacon was born on 22 Dec 1821 in Shelburne, Vermont.7,8,9
     He was probably the male age 15 to 20 listed in the household of his father, Alpheus Bacon, in the 1840 Federal Census of Shelburne, Chittenden Co., Vermont.15
     He moved to New York with his parents before 1850. He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Brighton, Monroe Co., New York, in the household of his parents, Alpheus Bacon and Sarah Cobb.16
     He moved to Orleans Co. with his father after the death of his mother. He appeared on the 1855 State Census of Ridgeway, Orleans Co., New York, in the household of his father.5
     John married first Harriet A. Beals.10,11
     John and Harriet appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Ridgeway, Orleans Co., New York, enumerated 10 Aug 1860, They were evidently living close to his father and sister as the two households were listed one after the other in the census. Their daughter Ida was listed as living with them.17
     His wife died on 30 Mar 1861.18
     John married second Sophia E. Belson, daughter of George H. Belson.12,13
     John and Sophia appeared on the 1865 State Census of Ridgeway, Orleans Co., New York, enumerated 30 Jun 1865, reporting he lived in a frame home valued at $1,000. Their son William and his daughter Ida by his prior marriage were listed as living with them, as were his father, her sister Ada, and Samuel Copeland, age 26, who appears to have been a farm hand.6
     John and Sophia appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Knowlesville, Orleans Co., New York, enumerated 28 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $6,000 and personal estate of $500. Their children William and Clara and his daughter Ida were listed as living with them, as was his father, Alpheus Bacon.19

     John died on 4 May 1874 in Ridgeway, New York, at age 52.14 He was buried in Bates Road Cemetery, Ridgeway, Orleans Co., New York.14
