Narrative:

     Eliza Y. Long was born on 4 Dec 1809 in Eddyville, Kentucky.8,9,10
     She was probably one of the three females under age 10 listed in the household of her father, Griffin Long, in the 1810 Federal Census of Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.15
     Her father died in Mar or Apr 1817, when Eliza was about 8 years old.16
     She was probably one of the two females age 10 to 16 listed in the household of her mother, Sarah Graham, in the 1820 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky.17
     Eliza married John B. Ball, son of William Ball and Rachel Barnes, on 13 Jan 1831 in Sangamon Co., Illinois.11,12,3
     On 9 May 1836 Eliza and her sister Melvilla and their husbands sold to their uncle Thomas Long their rights as heirs of their father in a tract on head of Spring Ck., "the proper boundaries not known to the parties," for $80.18 Eliza and John were living in Sangamon Co., Illinois, when they made that sale.19
     Eliza was probably the female age 20 to 30 listed in the household of her husband, John B. Ball, in the 1840 Federal Census of Apple River, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois.20
     Eliza and John appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Weston, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, enumerated 6 Nov 1850. Their children William, Maria, Alamander, George, Joel, Brinsley, Arminta, Milvilla and Sarah were listed as living with them.21 They appeared on the 1855 State Census of Woodbine, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, reporting livestock valued at $1,000. Their children Alamander, George, Joel, Brinsley, Arminta, Milvilla and Sarah were listed as living with them.22
     Eliza and John appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Elizabeth Twp., Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, enumerated 13 Sep 1860, reporting real estate valued ate $3,070 and personal estate of $2,550. Their children Alamander, George, Joel, Brinsley, Arminta, Milvilla and Sarah were listed as living with them, as was her mother, Sarah Graham.23
     Eliza was apparently the female age 40 to 50 listed on the 1865 State Census of Elizabeth, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, in the household of her husband.24
     Eliza and John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Elizabeth, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, enumerated 18 Jun 1870, reporting no real estate, but personal estate of $100. Their daughter Sarah was listed as living with them.25
     Her husband died on 23 May 1874 in Elizabeth Twp., Jo Daviess Co., Illinois.26,27,28
     Eliza appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Elizabeth, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois, enumerated 8 Jun 1880.29
     Eliza and her youngest daughter, Jane, moved to Iowa before 1885. Eliza and Jane appeared on the 1885 State Census of Wilson, Osceola Co., Iowa, in the household of her daughter Arminta and her husband, John K. Isbell.30
     Eliza apparently returned to Illinois to live with her son Joel and his wife before he died in 1892. She applied for a penson based on his Civil War service 1 Sep 1892, as his dependent. His widow had applied earlier that year and was approved, but Eliza was not.31
     Eliza died on 9 Jan 1898 in Illinois at age 88.8,13 She was buried in Morseville Cemetery, Morseville, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois.14
