Henry "the Elder" Cobb, the imigrant ancestor of all the Cobbs in this website, arrived in Plymouth between 1627 and 1632. He was among those who established the village of Scituate in 1633, then moved on as part of Rev. Lothrop's congregation when they established the village of Barnstable in 1635.

His son Henry moved his family from Barnstable to Stonington, Connecticut between 1701 and 1705. His son Gideon and his family moved to Canterbury in 1726.

His son Gideon had six sons, five of whom moved to Stillwater, New York in the early 1770s. We do not know whether Gideon accompanied them, but he did join four of them when they moved to Pawlet, Vermont, about 1780.
